Autonomous Exploration and Inspection using Aerial Robots – Kostas Alexis | RI Seminar, CMU

Kostas Alexis, Assistant Professor, University of Nevada, Reno gave a presentation on “Autonomous Exploration and Inspection using Aerial Robots” at RI seminar on 28th Oct 2016.

This talk covers a set of new (majority open sourced and experimentally verified sampling based) strategies that break new ground on how robots explore unknown environments and how to actively combine the planning and perception loops to achieve autonomous exploration.

Kostas Alexis obtained his Ph.D. in the field of aerial robotics control and collaboration from the University of Patras, Greece in 2011.

Robotic Data Gathering in the Wild – Ibrahim Volkan Isler | RI Seminar, CMU

Ibrahim Volkan Isler, Associate Professor, University of Minnesota discussed projects as well as some of the fundamental algorithmic problems that his group studied and developed on the way of several mobile robotic system developments.

Mobile robots equipped with various sensors can gather data at unprecedented spatial and temporal scales and resolution. Over the years, his group has developed autonomous surface, ground and aerial vehicles for finding and localizing radio tagged animals.
