Erle Robotics Acquired By Acutronic Robotics In Push For Next Generation Robotics Solutions

Erle Robotics, S.L. (“Erle”), a start-up company incorporated in Spain’s Basque region, has been wholly acquired by Acutronic Link Robotics AG (“Acutronic Robotics”), a company incorporated in Zurich Canton, Switzerland and co-founded by J.A. Technologies AG (“J.A.T.”) of Zug, Switzerland (J.A.T. is the parent company of the ACUTRONIC Group, the global market leader in precision motion simulation solutions), Victor Mayoral (the Co-Founder and CTO of Erle), and Carlos Uraga (the CEO of Erle). J.A.T. holds a majority equity stake in Acutronic Robotics. Victor Mayoral and Carlos Uraga will manage the new company. The firm will operate from locations in Spain, Switzerland, and the United States.

Erle was established in 2014 by Victor Mayoral and David Mayoral of Vitoria (Basque country), Spain. Erle is recognized as one of the most promising start-ups in the field of robotics. Since its inception, the company has sold thousands of hardware parts for robots and drones and has executed a number of government contracts for engineering and research projects. Most recently, Erle was funded by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)’s Robotics Fast Track program for the development of its proprietary Hardware Robot Operating System (“H-ROS”). Powered by the popular Robot Operating System (ROS), H-ROS offers building-block-style parts that come as reusable and reconfigurable components allowing users to easily upgrade their robots with hardware from different manufacturers and add new features in seconds.

Following the transaction, Carlos Uraga will serve as the Chief Operations Officer of Acutronic Robotics and Victor Mayoral will serve as the company’s Chief Technology Officer.

The Board of Directors will consist of Florian Aigrain (serving as Chairman and representative of J.A.T.), Carlos Uraga, Victor Mayoral, and two other Directors appointed by J.A.T.

The new company will have three business lines: Acutronic Robotics will be responsible for the development and commercial activities related to H-ROS; robot and drone hardware products will continue to be sold under the Erle brand; engineering services will be offered to corporate and government clients.

Víctor Mayoral, remarked: “ We’ve been blessed with a fantastic set of investors and terrific team. As the first industry standards for robots start to appear, the field of robotics is about to cross a critical point. Along with the Robot Operating System (ROS), which is the de-facto standard for robot application development, Acutronic Robotic’s Hardware Robot Operating System (H-ROS) provides a common infrastructure for robot hardware components. We are extremely excited about joining the Acutronic Group to push our ideas around hardware for robots and help companies create interoperable robot components that will enable the next generation of robots.”

Carlos Uraga highlights: “Our team has successfully met or exceeded its corporate goals based upon its powerful commitment to succeed, despite its very limited resources. Given this new partnership, we now have the resources and financial strength to really drive the robotics landscape to a much higher level. By selectively adding critical resources along with the support of Acutronic’s industry experience, we are anticipating considerable upside.”

The transaction supports J.A.T.’s strategy to build upon the strong Acutronic brand, the market leader in motion simulation solutions for the aerospace and defense industries. The combination of industrial services, software development, and electro-mechanical engineering that will define Acutronic Robotics is a natural complement to the Acutronic Group’s existing skillset. Florian Aigrain made the following statement: “We are incredibly proud to be joining forces with the Erle team. Their success, dedication, and discipline over the last 2 years have been phenomenal. Acutronic’s existing teams in Switzerland and the U.S. are amongst the best in the business – we look forward to adding value to H-ROS and Erle. With the newly expanded Acutronic Group, we hope to build a best-in-class industrial technology firm.”
