RoboCup 2015: China is Ready to Host

The RoboCup 2015 contains two major events, first one is a Robot competition and second one is a symposium – “RoboCup International Symposium 2015″. The RoboCup 2015 scheduled in Hefei China, starting form 17 July. It is a full one week event including the symposium.

The RoboCup 2015 will be held at the Anhui International Conference & Exhibition Center in Hefei, Anhui province, China. It covers an area of 132,000sqm, of which the built-up area is 100,000sqm. The whole venue is separated by Fanhua Avenue into two Parts (Zone A and Zone B), 4 individual areas. Major and Junior competitions, as well as the Symposium will be held in Zone A, which includes Hall 1 and Hall 2, Conference Halls as well as East Plaza.

The RoboCup 2015 has six main competitions

  1. RoboCup Soccer
  2. RoboCup Rescue
  3. RoboCup@Home
  4. RoboCup@Work RoboCupWiki
  5. RoboCupLogisitcs Sponsored by Festo
  6. RoboCupJunior

There are five leagues in RoboCup Soccer.

1.Small Size League

Small Size robot soccer is one of the RoboCup league divisions. Small Size robot soccer, or F180 as it is otherwise known, focuses on the problem of intelligent multi-agent cooperation and control in a highly dynamic environment with a hybrid centralized/distributed system.

2.Middle Size League

3.Humanoid League

In the Humanoid League, autonomous robots with a human-like body plan and human-like senses play soccer against each other. Unlike humanoid robots outside the Humanoid League the task of perception and world modeling is not simplified by using non-human like range sensors. In addition to soccer competitions technical challenges take place. Dynamic walking, running, and kicking the ball while maintaining balance, visual perception of the ball, other players, and the field, self-localization, and team play are among the many research issues investigated in the Humanoid League. Several of the best autonomous humanoid robots in the world compete in the RoboCup Humanoid League.

4.Standard Platform League

The RoboCup Standard Platform League is a RoboCup robot soccer league, in which all teams compete with identical robots. The robots operate fully autonomously, i.e. there is no external control, neither by humans nor by computers. The current standard platform used is the humanoid NAO by Aldebaran Robotics.

5.Soccer Simulation League

Without the necessity to maintain any robot hardware, the RoboCup Simulation League’s focus comprises artificial intelligence and team strategy.

RoboCup International Symposium 2015

Overview

The 19th Annual RoboCup International Symposium will be held in conjunction with RoboCup 2015. The Symposium is a primary venue for presentation and discussion of scientific contributions to a variety of research areas related to all RoboCup divisions (RoboCup Soccer, RoboCup Rescue, RoboCup at Home, RoboCup at Work, and RoboCup Junior). Its scope includes, but is not restricted to, research and educational activities in robotics and artificial intelligence.

Due to its interdisciplinary nature, the Symposium offers a unique venue for exploring both theory and practice in wide spectrum of research fields. The experimental, interactive, and benchmark character of the RoboCup initiative presents an opportunity to disseminate novel ideas and promising technologies, rapidly adopted and field-tested by a large, and still growing, community.
